- The court states that the arrest of Kashamu with the help of Nigerian authorities does not amount to abduction

Kashamu representing Ogun east constituency was alleged to have been the ring-leader of a ’90s drug cartel in Chicago, US.
Senator Buruji Kashamu can now be arrested by US security agents for alleged drug trafficking in coordination with local authorities, following a ruling by a United States appeals court.
Washington Post reports that court gave the ruling, while rejecting an appeal by the senator that the court should prevent his abduction by US authorities to face drug trafficking charges.
Kashamu representing Ogun east constituency was alleged to have been the ring-leader of a ’90s drug cartel in Chicago, US.
The senator had in April 2015 asked a district court to put a hold on his abduction abroad by US authorities.
In its ruling, the US court of appeals on Monday, January 23, dismissed the complaint and upheld the ruling of the lower court.
According to the court, the attempt by US agents to arrest Kashamu in coordination with Nigerian authorities cannot be termed “an attempted abduction”.
